How much does a Kentucky real estate license cost?

Every fee from the course to the first renewal, so you can plan the whole investment before you start.

The short answer

About $620 to $820 to get licensed, plus the KREC application fee.

A Kentucky real estate license costs roughly $620 to $820 up front, depending on the course package you choose: $499 to $699 for the required 96-hour pre-licensing course, $18 for the FBI background check, and $100 for the PSI exam. The Kentucky Real Estate Commission charges a separate application fee set in its current fee schedule.

After licensing, plan for Errors and Omissions insurance, a $130 renewal every two years, a 48-hour post-license course in your first two years, and 6 hours of continuing education annually.

Where the money goes

Why the course is the biggest line item.

The 96 hours of education are the largest cost and the one with the most choice. Packages differ in what they bundle, not in the hours, which Kentucky fixes at 96. Century's Premium package at $499 includes Exam Prep Edge and the Basics & Beyond textbook, the two things students most often buy separately. The $679 Professional Track adds a drill-and-practice question bank with over a thousand questions. The $679 hybrid moves the Kentucky portion into live online sessions taught by Lucy Brooks.

Everything after the course is set by the state or by PSI and does not change based on the school you choose. The one exception is post-licensing: Century's 48-hour package is $345 and covers all 32 mandatory and 16 elective hours in one enrollment.

Quick answers

Cost questions, answered.

What is the cheapest way to get a Kentucky real estate license?

The lowest-cost path is a self-paced online pre-licensing package plus the required $18 background check and $100 exam fee. Century's Premium package is $499 and already includes exam prep and a textbook, which many schools sell separately.

Does the course price include the exam?

No. The PSI exam fee of $100 is paid to PSI when you schedule. Course packages cover your education and, in Century's Premium package, your exam prep materials.

Are there ongoing costs after I'm licensed?

Yes. Kentucky licenses renew every two years ($130 for active licensees). You also complete 48 hours of post-license education in your first two years ($345 at Century) and 6 hours of continuing education each year after that, plus Errors and Omissions insurance and any brokerage or association fees.

Can my employer pay for my real estate course?

If you are a UAW-represented Ford employee, your ETAP benefit may cover an approved pre-licensing course through Century. See the Ford / UAW page for details.
